Meet Sam Mathew
The Foundation of SM Building
Sam Mathew isn’t just the founder, owner and operator of SM Building; he’s the driving force behind the commitment to sustainable, high-quality building in northeast Tasmania. A Launceston local, Sam’s roots run deep in the community, giving him an intimate understanding of our local suburbs and the Tasmanian way of life.
As a husband, father, and unapologetic Western Bulldogs fan, Sam’s journey in building his own family home was a personal turning point. It ignited a passion for creating healthy, sustainable living environments that not only safeguarded his family but also respected and preserved our planet for future generations. This revelation steered SM Building towards specialising in Passive Houses and high-performance, energy-efficient homes, reflecting Sam’s dedication to excellence, innovation and environmental stewardship.
Working hand-in-hand with clients, Sam ensures that every SM Building project benefits from his direct involvement and experience. He’s there from the first conversation to the final handover, guaranteeing a personal touch that larger companies can’t match. Meet Jack Venn
The Rising Talent at SM Building
Jack Venn, affectionately known as Sam’s right-hand man, is the dynamic apprentice behind many of SM Building’s successes. Growing up in northeast Tasmania, Jack’s early years were marked by a curiosity for construction and a keenness to lend a hand with projects big and small around the house. It was this passion for building that naturally led him to seize the opportunity to apprentice with SM Building.
For Jack, every day brings a new challenge and a chance to deepen his expertise in crafting high-quality, sustainable homes. He thrives on the diversity of tasks each project presents, driven by a commitment to excellence and a desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of SM Building’s clients.
Currently on a journey to full qualification, Jack’s ambition doesn’t stop at mastering his trade. He’s invested in learning the intricacies of Passive House construction, ensuring that every home he works on not only seeks to exceed client expectations.
Jack’s alignment with Sam in both skill and spirit fortifies the foundation of SM Building’s mission—to deliver homes that enrich lives and respect the environment.
